the norcold in both my Arctic fox and Open range both work great in the slide. Yes the fan come on during hot days, and you can hear it, but never runs at night.
I think one problem is many RV's don't have the air baffle installed in the upper vent. This causes the air to rise far enough to affect the heat on that top pipe with fins on it.
watch this video when you see the top opening I have no idea why Jayco blocked the whole thing, but this guy fixes it by removing the (top) board that should not be there, but you can see how he leaves the baffle in there.
Both of my RV's have this top baffle as well as seal around top of refrigerator to opening.
If you look at Charlies video, he does not have a baffle in top, but it does have the top of refrigerator to opening full of insulation. picture the hot air rises, and come up to the first place it can escape from (which is the lowest vent in top opening). this makes a hot air pocket around that pipe on top with fins which blocks the rising air even more, forcing it out the lowest vent in top opening. by installing his fans he forces air across this top pipe which stops the hot air pocket.
