Doing manual re-gen

Is there a way to do a manual re-gen on the 6.7 Powerstrokes w/o a laptop/ dealer? When my "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" msg comes up, it seems I'm just about to where I'm going and have to shut truck off. In fact, it came on while coming home from work a bit ago, I let it run a short bit in driveway and rpm's never increased, but exhaust was very very warm. On our semi's there is a switch to do a manual re-gen, and when engaged, RPM's go up quite a bit. Also know that when " CEF" msg comes up going down the road, not to worry about it for it will do it's thing for 10-15 minutes.
  • Thanks folks. There isn't a problem at all w/ things, but it just seems that when i get the message, I'm always pretty close to my destination and shutting truck off. Will give dealer a shout to see what they say.

In regards to being nearby when they do a manual re-gen. Our semis are the same way. Sound like a rocket getting ready for lift off. Heat? OMG they throw off a LOT of heat during this process. Ear protection highly suggested.
  • Not stock, but I have read about some on here having their truck programed by dealer to do manual regens and to monitor more scanners than stock.
I have a tablet that uses Android and I bought an app for $5 my truck through Not stock, but I have read about some on here having their truck programed by dealer to do manual regens and to monitor more scanners than stock.
I have a tablet that uses Android and I bought an app for $5 that scans my truck with a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the OBD2.
Not only can it read and reset trouble codes, it also monitors the trucks sensors.
You can monitor all of the exhaust sensors have an indicator light that tells you when you are regenerating. dist since last regen and a whole bunch of other sensors. It really lets you keep an eye on your truck.

The short answer is NO unless you had that option installed when the truck built. I just had mine in the shop and they did a regen but I had some issues ended up being the DEF injector and they did a regen. Also had a P246c code.

I don't believe there's a function that can be enabled to allow manual re gen. If there is, please post it, would be a lifesaver for some.
FWiW, Ford manual re gens are pretty violent, lol. If you cherish your baby you may not want to be within earshot when it's happening! Think floored in neutral for an extended period! It's ugly!
For Fish, just another reason to buy a Ram, lol. Manual regen on those basically sounds like high idle with the exhaust brake on. Very soothing.....

  • According to THIS-NO

Only a tech with laptop/program can force a manual regen

But then I have read it was a program option on XL/XLT
Software upload needed ----- On Command Regen option

Also have read that Ford 6.7 owners are doing manual regens (stationary) using their Edge Insight Programmer
