You may find out that towing above your rated weights is not "ridiculous".

No one is going to be at your side when you load up to go camping and advising you not to overload. It may be that your vehicle can handle more weight than what's advised by the mfg. It also may be that the weight ratings are carefully thought out and that exceeding them causes a failure of components in the vehicle. I try to keep weights under those ratings since I'm not an automotive engineer.

One thing we see on this Forum is folks buying a trailer that is a mismatch for the vehicle. Without knowing the weight ratings, they buy a TT and then later are posting "Why is towing my small trailer so stressful" or something similar. Many of these folks are either forced to downsize their trailer or, usually, upgrading their vehicle to something larger that will handle the weights. Some just continue along and suffer the consequences of the mismatch. In any of the above situations, the outcome isn't good.

I guess it boils down to either believing why the weight ratings are important or adhering to the new mantra of convenience, "It should be OK".

Ideally you'll know/learn the total weight on the rear axle of the Sequoia, that way you'll know for sure about being OK.

Your total payload assumes some amount of that total being carried by the front axles, and with a TT it is possible too much is on the back.

When I first started towing, I weighted everything I put in the trailer. I weight each item, food, bedding, tools, water, cloths and etc. I did the same with the truck items. If my calculations were correct, I was right at the limit for my half ton payload.

My thought was to find a scale to see how accurate my estimate was. Now, some 8000 miles later I am still curious.:@

However, since the TT pulls and handles so well, I have plenty of passing and breaking power; my weight would be a moot point. I certainly am not going to argue with the DW as to what she can or cannot take. :W

Yes, you;re good as long as you don't load an additional 80 lbs in the Sequoia, increase the weight in the trailer by 600 lb., or shift weight in the trailer from the back to the front.

In another thread the OP mentioned the weight of the TV (6760) so I believe they weighed it at the same time, but just didn't post all of the numbers here. I think the payload number above is what's left of the TV payload when hooked up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Didn't weigh the TV? How did you know the dry weight - did you unload? The sticker is the weight before propane tanks, battry, etc.
