When you installed the new batteries, what was their individual voltage- before you tried the slide?
What is their individual voltage now?
Have you tried to charge the new batteries- individually? The result?
What I am thinking- if one of the new batteries is a dud and you have them paralleled, the bad one is dragging the good one down.
