double over double or quad bunk

We are looking for a new trailer. We have three boys, but are also trying to keep the weight down. We also want storage. Trying to secide which way to go.... double bunk over double bunk or a quad bunk. Any hints or ideas would really be helpful!

Thanks!

  • Having been there ourselves any trailer in which each kid has his / her own bed is a significant improvement over any in which bed(s) have to be shared ... the reasons why should be obvious. :S
  • We are new to this having picked up our first trailer in April, but struggled with this same question. We went back and forth between the Shadow Cruiser 280QBS and the 282BHS; finally settling on the 280QBS.

282BHS positives were the additional slide (making room for the island) and the bathroom layout with additional entry door. Ultimately the wife gave up her island kitchen so the kids could have their own room and the extra dinette is great for the kids (3 total; one boy and two girls) to play games, color, etc.

Storage is decent as there is plenty of room for the kids stuff in their room and we have utilized the space under the sofa via plastic totes. The dinette does not have drawers to easily access the space under the seating, but will probably work a DIY solution after this first season.

We really liked the Fun Finder 299KIQB, but was afraid of weight and overloading our 2015 Yukon XL

  • You might want to look at a TT with Happy Jack bunk beds. We bought a 31' model in Feb - two bunkhouse beds lift to the ceiling leaving a lot of storage underneath. Your third son would have to sleep on the sofa pull-out or the bed conversion at the dining table. Gross weight including hitch is only 7250. Just a thought - we went this route for the storage under the beds when traveling (bikes, coolers, etc.). Each of the bunks can hold a 300b person. Just another option ;o). http://www.starcraftrv.com/light-weight/launch-ultra-lite/
  • Quad bunk. Depending on your TV you can get some decently priced, average weighted quad bunk trailers with one slide in the living area.
