driving the I15 in febuary

I hope I am posting this correctly. My family has never gone on a long rv trip, and we are planning on a trip from Alberta to Disneyland in Febuary. I an looking for advice on what the I15 is like to drive at that time of the year, and where we would find campgrounds that are open. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • As theczar posted from Vegas to Disneyland try to plan to do it on Sturday or a weekday; try to hit the LA area after the morning commute has died down..after 10AM and before the afternoon commute begins around 2PM. It's a small window to avoid heavy traffic.
  • Recommend watching the weather.

Central Utah can have some very large snow storms in February and March.
  • Just don't be caught on the Las Vegas to LA portion on a Sunday. Way too much Traffic.

There is one RV park off I-15 in great falls open year round. go by it quite often when we are in Great Falls. Quick place to stay overnight, but from the looks, that's about it. I thinks it's Dicks RV park or similar, off I-15 and 10th ave south exit.

Yup Dicks is open year around.

I'm fairly certain Helena RV Park is open year around

I think Butte KOA is open year around
  • You are going to find few parks open, plan your over night stops well ahead.

Don't be afraid to stop in places like Great Falls, Helena, Butte, Idaho Falls, etc an extra night if it means waiting for weather or day-light.

DON'T plan on doing that trip on a short schedule

Be careful of black ice from Great Falls to Idaho Falls. The weather does not get warmer (no ice) until you reach Southern Nevada.

yup, 15 can give you trouble through montana and into idaho, but being from alberta your probably well versed in the winter weather driving.

Monida pass can get bad in winter with lots of wind and blowing snow.

My brothers do the run from Idaho Falls to great falls and back quite often during the winter, they just watch the weather forecast.

downside is I don't think you will find very many RV parks open during the winter. virtually all state campgrounds and FS campgrounds will be closed.

  • Download the RV Parky app to your phone. It overlays all camp grounds, RV parks and public parking lots that allow overnight parking.

As far as the 15, I imagine the further you come south the better it will be as far as snow.

    Have FUN at Disneyland!

I am only 40 minuets from it and hardly ever go :(
