Drop your camper at the campground?

I've got an AF1150, so if I drop it from the truck, it's got to be held off the ground a minimum of ~14" to clear drains & lines.

The owners manual states to never leave the camper on the jacks for any extended amount of time, and gives dimensions for support at a minimum of 3, 6" wide points across the basement floor. I've not been able to build a platform to support it fully like I'd like, but have it set on 3 12" lawn timbers perched on cinder blocks and leveled out. Those aren't traveling with me....so what do you do in camp?

Also, it's pretty heavy, so foldable options aren't likely.

Just curious....who drops their camper, and how they do it?

Also....I have such a hard time loading it just right into the truck....that I tend to want to leave it in the truck for the season if possible.

  • We take our Lance off the truck and leave it on the jacks. If we are going to stay somewhere for a few days, off it comes. One solution might be to consider putting your AF on a Stable Lift System to get better support. Forum members that use the system sure seem to be pleased with them.

Lance doesn't seem to have anything in the owner's manual prohibiting living in the TC when it is setting on the jacks. On our last trip north in 2011, we had the camper off the truck for a few days in Tok, Fairbanks, Valdez and at Tangle Lakes up by Paxson.

Our current TC is the 5th one we have owned and I have never seen the need to block/support any of them when off the truck. The first 3 TCs we owned were purchased in Alaska but I have never owned an AF so you do seem to have a quandary.

I do believe I would give the AF factory a call and see/hear what their concerns are with using the TC with it on the jacks. Are they concerned that the tub is going to pull loose from the upper part or that the floor is going to pull loose from the sides of the tub, or what? Since your AF May or may not be out of warrantee , you might be able to modify it to make it usable on the jacks. And again, that may have gotten written into the original AF owners manual for no real reason.
