When seriously working with weights for your RV trailers you need to become familiar with how the manufacturer determined its weights.
Almost everything to do with safety and certification can be found in the documents the trailer builder must adhere to. Many of those documents are found in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). All of them apply to the vehicle builder. Optional items added by the dealer after the trailer leaves the plant must be accounted for on the CCC label before it’s sold.
For trailers with a certified GVWR of 10,000# or less read FMVSS 571.110. For trailers with a certified GVWR more than 10,000# read FMVSS 571.120. Certification info can be found in 49 CFR Part 567.
