Here is where I'd like to respectfully have a difference of opinion and here's why?
Yes, (I'm speaking only for myself, not in generalities for everyone else on this thread) ...
I always played by the rules with my dully. I've owned 3 of them now. The 3rd one (in my signature below), bought it brand new .. BRAND new!
Bought it in September. In December we went to Florida over Christmas for a week. Had the trailer in tow. Stopped at a shopping Mall to go o Sears. (Gigantic parking lot). We parked truck and trailer in the middle of nowwhere! all alone, took about 50 parking spots (Ok, a little over exaggerated here). Came out of the store and found out someone clobbered the fat fender on the passenger side (from the back. It has a dent on it. Looks like the perfect height for someone's mirror on a normal family car or van.
Talked to my insurance company and decided to just leave the crease in the fender. It's been there for 2 years now.
It's a CONSTANT reminder that I am a good driver, I follow the rules, I am very conscious of parking spaces, BUT ... others are NOT!
So, ever since this very disappointing experience, and a blemish on my truck... I don't have any arguments any more about taking 2 spaces to park the truck! Quite the contrary. Before I did my best to get into a single spot, follow the rules, and be the nice guy. After this ... I'm taking the space now. If anyone questions my parking ability, I'll simply point to the dent ... I DID not make! No one has ever said anything to me.
AND ... when you pay $56,000 for a vehicle, brand new, you really do NOT appreciate other drivers bashing in your fenders and running!
So what I get from this is "two wrongs make a right".
