I think it's a DOT requirement for commercial trucks. I also think I read they have to be within 8" of the ground, which I don't think mine are. I assume the dealer puts them on to satisfy DOT.
I had battery acid drip on mine (long story) and messed up the aluminum dealer advertisement on it. While at the dealer for maintenance I asked the parts guy " how much for replacement mud flaps?" FREE if you don't mind our billboard on them.
