- Reddog1Explorer IISkiMore, the generator is sitting on a mount I fabricated. The mount itself is mounted to Unistrut, which in turn is fastened to the rear Camper Jack mounts. The ladder carries no generator weight.
The extra gas is a three gallon boat fuel tank. It sits on a lawn chair rack which hooks to the ladder. Both are held in place with two bungee cords. One is enough, but the second bungee serves as a safety.
I have been running this way since about 2005, for thousands of miles.

EDIT: I do not want to hijack this thread, but this photo may provide a bit more detail on my Honda mount. - SkiMoreExplorer

To get a simple answer to your question, you need to be more specific as to what kind on generator, and if it is under the truck or just in the rain.
I run my Honda in its mount. I do pull its cover over the electrical end to prevent water from running in the receptacle. In my opinion, with the exception of the receptacle, It would be very difficult to get water in the Honda. I have had my Honda 2000 since 2004.

Wayne,
What is your generator and extra gas sitting on? Is it a shelf attached to the ladder? - Reddog1Explorer II

That is pretty much how I deal with my Honda. When/where I camp, it has not yet needed the sweater. :R

I use a Honda 2000, on a daily basis as a homebuilder. It runs eight hours a day, sitting in the mud, snow or on a gravel pile. It has spent days in the pouring rain, seen a few snow storms, and got peed on by a dog. After three years, the case is banged up a bit, it needs a tune-up and an oil change. As for a rain cover......seriously? Don't forget to knit a little sweater for it too....it's chilly out.
Wayne - 2edgeswordExplorerI would cover it (section of plywood over the top) but I would be concerned about completely covering it in a way that inhibits air flow, both intake and exhaust.

It's never hard to find things to tie a small tarp up, just make sure to leave plenty of air flow around the exhaust.

Wayne - TraciKExplorerOk, thanks! We are buying a champion to use this weekend. There is a 40 percent chance of rain. I DO NOT want to be with out the a/c!
- old_guyExplorerours run all the time during elk season, rain or snow. as stated, they tell you NOT to run them in the rain, but unless you build a shelter for them, they are going to run during the rain storm.
- retired4fun2002ExplorerPVC Piping, piece of plywood and a 5-7 tarp works for us. You paid good bucks for it - take care of it and it will last for years.
