My valves are a ways back from the sewer connection. There is always going to be some residual sewage in the pipe when I take the cap off. I don't think it's from the valves leaking, it just doesn't all drain out of the pipe. I put a spin on valve at the end of the pipe just ahead of the connection for the hose. Mine hasn't fallen off in 20,000 miles but you could glue it or put a wrap of Gorilla tape around it to be sure. First and best thing I ever bought for this trailer. No more surprises!

"spin on valve" ?
I've got the same issue and am wondering what to do about it. Hate to put another blade valve at the end of the pipe ...
Yup it's the valve that goes on right at the end of the pipe before you hook the sewer line on. I put mine on and just left it there. It's often called a spin on valve. If one of your cables to a valve breaks when the valve is open it will allow you to still use the rig among other things. It should be standard equipment on every trailer in my opinion.
