Duramax bites the dust - Blown head gasket @ 102K miles

I have to ask about the honing of the cylinders with piston installed. Not something that is normally, if ever, done.

I have a pic showing close to 50mpg on the dash.....you mean it is not correct for that moment in time....ie 3 miles ALL downhill from fill up! LOLOL

Congrats on getting your Dmax back. Sounds like your mechanic did a fine job.

5600 not to bad. Friend I work with had hid 08 Harley ford 6.4 go south and he is spending 16,000 on a new motor that ford did not cover. I know you didn't get a new motor but sounds like your set for the long haul!!

Not an expert but what about honing two cylinders with the pistons still in the holes?

New C grade gaskets with ARP studs. Two cylinders affected with coolant got honed. Cleaned and adjusted all valves, cleaned a ton of gunk out of the intake plenum. Cleaned and adjusted all injectors. Replaced all radiator and heater hoses, serpentine belt, worn fuel lines and vacuum hoses.
