Duramax

When you're cruising at 75 mph,,,,passing everyone,,, uphill,,, with camper in tow,,,, and you look down and notice the rpm's are at 1800,,,, you say to yourself "Self, buying a Duramax dually was a good decision".

  • Ah yes! Agree with the OP, except I don't drive that fast. But how sweet it is when I look at those RPM. Makes me wonder if I pushed that peddle and reved it up to 5000 RPM .... how fast would I REALLY be going! I don't know, I've never had it over 100 mph! (not towing of course, and only once to see what it would do).

If you had bought a Cummins you could be doing it at 1600 RPM. Just sayin'.
  • Clearly diesels have a mental calm to them because they turn low RPM's and make towing feel effortless, there is no debate about it.

But people towing with gas motors seriously need to learn how to use their right foot and allow the motor to sing. I don't know why the majority fear engine RPM's.

And I have been known to tow at 75mph. My trailer tires are rated for much more, so that's not a factor. Stability, wind, straight line interstate, and no traffic is.
  • Bet OP hasn't a clue about speed rating of the tires on that camper in tow as he's flying down the hwy........

Completely agree....except for the towing at 75mph part.

Maybe the OP only tows at 75 because any faster would interfere with texting and video games they're playing? :B
  • As I'm poking up the hill at 36mph with my 6.0 gasser screaming at 4000rpm, I try to make myself feel better by telling myself "self, you save $7000 getting the gasser". Dang I want a diesel :)
