Durango and Shadow Cruiser S280QBS?

There is an article on Trailer Life about a Durango pulling a Shadow Cruiser S280QBS TT.. It says the Durango pulls it perfectly. Mine is a 2015 (TT), so its a little newer than the article.

I currently have a Dodge Ram 1500 that i pull my Shadow Cruiser with. I tow a lot in the App mountains.. Ram handles it well.

My wife is really in to the Durango's, but curious if it would properly pull the Cruiser AND control it through the mountains. The Ram wheelbase is 140", while the Durango is 119.8".. That's a huge difference. I'm worried about sway (tail wagging the dog!), and stopping. The power i know is fine, as its the same motor.

The trailer is 31FT tongue to bumper.. 5445 lbs, dry.

Thoughts? Can the Durango do it?
  • Thanks guys. We're going to go with a larger vehicle. Appreciate the input..
  • Payload and 750-ish pound receiver limit would be concern, assuming the Durango had the Hemi. I would not do it.
  • While the Durango might have the "tow rating" to tow that much weight, I'd think you'll have your hands full with it... ;)

Not the vehicle I'd want to be pulling a 30' anything with... But, that's just me.. :)

I'd hang on to the RAM.. ;)

  • Personally I would not try to pull a 31 ft TT with a Durango. Check the sticker on the post of the drivers door for info on what that SUV is rated for. Does it have a tow package--transmission cooler, larger brakes and so on? What is the hitch receiver rated for? How much does the TT weigh at full weight not dry weight?

And by the way, the Appalachians are foothills compared to the western mountains.
