Dyna-glo portable propane heater

Any one using dyna-glo or Mr.heat portable propane heaters
How do you like them?
I have an 8000 btu that operate's on one pound tanks
Could it be hooked on a 5 or 10 pound tank?
Any comparison with wave 3?

    Ditto on this. (wave 3).

Im not sure but I think the vented cat uses some 12 v power , the PLAT Cat . But that's a VG safe heater.

Wave has a heat range 1600 btus to 3000. There is no open flame, just a glow.

Plat cat does vent... Takes .5 amps to run the fan. Can operate with a remote thermostat like your furnace. Each time it turns on to heat it takes around 2-3 minutes to start... During that time the heating element takes about 5 amps.

I have used the Buddy but I place it on top of my stove lid not on the floor where a blanket or dog could accidently go " puff " !
My camper is a small non slide so I only use Buddy when I travel alone, only during the times when I'm awake . Heavy sleeping bag at night works.
IMO, having two persons on board and a large dog is not the best idea with the open flame, I just use the OEM furnace then.
If I had a Wave maybe I would feel more safe, I don't know .

  • Hi Roy,

I believe that is a Platinum Cat installed by sleepy. It is a whole different kettle of fish from an unvented combustion heater. It is safe. The others are not.

  • A friend of mine has used a DynaGlo for about 10 years and the box that she had until recently said it was indoor/outdoor. I know this because I had to borrow the thing once when my furnace decided it didn't want to work. I know she built it into their bus (wall mounted and hard piped) so now I can't borrow it. My goddaughter has a Mr Heater from Wal-mart in her class c. Neither one puts out the amounts of water others claim they do. Both RVs have CO/LP/smoke detectors in them.
  • I use the Wave 3 heater mainly because I had a decent area to mount it. I would of considered a Mr Buddy heater if I did not have a place to mount the Cat heater. Its nice to have the heater tied into your on board propane tanks. Im not sure I would want to mess around with the small portable tanks.
  • I have a Mr Heater Buddy (the smaller one) and LOVE it. When boondocking it does save battery power during the day if I'm caught/stuck inside, but it is ALWAYS off at night, so I still use the furnace. The Buddy keeps the camper REALLY warm on low. Yes, you can connect it directly to your a 5gal or larger tank and I have this set up at home on my semi-enclosed glass room porch on the deck at the outside bar. The tank is hidden behind the bar and connected with a 3' hose connector. Really nice!

  • I have a Buddy and a Wave, like them both, they work. But here's my theory. Cold at night...use a sleeping bag over the usual blankets. Fire up the furnace when it's time to get up...takes 3 minutes. Cold during the day...go outside and build a fire. I don't go camping to sit inside.

I used Mr Buddy heaters all the time (and still do) when tent camping. My back-up heat source for my POPUP trailer is the same Mr Buddy heater.

I follow open windows and vents when using the Mr Buddy heater which almost defeats the reson to have a hearter going if you have an open window... Being TENT FABRIC in the tents and popups sort of make it ok in your mind all is ok to use these type of heaters. It probably is a dumb idea for tents as well. My MR BUDDY heater also puts off a large amount of water during the night. I have it sitting in a cooking tray an it is entirely filled up by morning.

Being in a closed area I don't think I would trust the MR BUDDY heater concept as these heaters remove all of the oxygen inside the trailer and replaces it with Carbon monoxide poison fumes...

    just my thoughts here...
