MY OEM size was LT265/70R17-C Goodyear AT/S. I assume the tires contribute some to a stiffer ride and that is the point right? If you must have the smoothest ride then stay with P but I think you are better with LT for towing and the ride is not bad at all. Don't go over 50 psi, my door say 36.
