East Coast and West Coast floorplans

O.k, so this might seem like a silly question, but can you go into your local RV dealer and order an East Coast floorplan if you live on the West Coast?

We really like the Keystone Passport 252bh but it doesn't seem to be available over here. Is this just a supply/demand thing or are there rules for some reason?
  • Never really thought about it....maybe weather conditions, lifestyles, terrain. Suggest you start the search for the make and model you're interested in with the larger volume dealers such as RVWholesalers in OH, or RVDirect in NY and another location I can't recall. Wildwood is a Forest River product, which both dealers sell. Otherwise, suggest you call the manufacturer directly and find out what dealer closest to you could order or possibly has what you're after. Likely a lot has to do with the manufacturing location and shipping. Example....who would figure that Hybrid Travel Trailers would be extremely popular in the east, north and into Canada, but tough to find in CA. A CA owner had to drive to Chicago to get what he wanted at a decent price. We're in West TN and drove to RVW for both our HTT and new TT bought this May. We saved enough with their pricing to cover trip expenses and still come out over $4000 ahead on our HTT and more on the TT. Turning this purchase into a vacation with a really large souvenir is certainly a thought if you can save enough. Someone, somewhere has likely thought this through but no clue what's the reason. It would be interesting to know what the determination is. If you find out, please share with the rest of us.
  • I've been RVing for 22 years and never knew there were different floorplans depending on which part of the US you live. I'm still not understanding exactly the reasons for this.
  • Here is Forest River/Wildwood's map of the US plus Canada broken up into three parts, with different Wildwood models for each of the three areas. Below is the linky link to said site.

Why is Florida in the same zone as some of the northern extremes of Canada?

Maybe I'm insane, but I'd do floor plans on latitudes, not regions. Southern floorplans would be designed around ducted A/C units, inbuilt generators, vented compartments for portable ones, larger refrigerators for more cold drinks, ice makers, etc.

Areas north of Dallas, floorplans would still have A/C units, but would be focused on keeping warm, with the ability to heat the rig (and the enclosed underside) with both the propane furnace and an electric heater (even if it is a factory installed Cheap Heat system.)

North/south floorplans make more sense than east/west, IMHO.
