Ecoboost 5.0 coming

On another thread this question came up "do you have a link to fords new V8 ecoboost"

Its 5.2 actually, likely done with a stroker crank, but built alongside the 5.0 . Curious if the plant has the volume for all the trucks it could go into.

The V10 is year to year and the 6.2 is not going to be built much longer ....so this will be it.

So much for "never going to happen - end of story " eh Robert?
  • Just because the 3.5L EB in the Raptor will be at 450hp doesn't mean the one in the standard pickup will be.

I'd be interested in seeing what 500 lb-ft of torque would do to a half ton transmission and axles. I think that Cummins Titan is bumping up to a 10.5" rear end. Wonder if the F150 will as well?

That's a good question. It is a LOT of torque. The 10-speed tranny will be new, so it may be beefed up. IDK about the rear axle but it might be smart to upgrade it, too. Anybody know if the current Navigator with 460lbs torque has the 9.75"?

The 2nd generation 3.5l is supposed to have 450HP and likely 500+ lb torque. I can't imagine a 5L eco available in anything but maybe a Raptor or Mustang (which already has a 5.2l NA)? But never say never.

The 5.2 Eco is interesting. If it can get decent mileage I bet it'll be a great gasser. I have a feeling that thing is going to suck down fuel like nobody's business, though.
  • The 5.2L is a special V-8 that is only going in the GT 350 & GT 350R right now, but who knows what the future holds.

The 2017 Raptor will come with the 3.5 Ecoboost. Car & Driver says this engine produces 450hp and will come with a 10 speed gearbox.

The new Ford GT will have have the same 3.5 Ecoboost, but will be over 600 HP.
  • Please provide a link to factual information to support the supposition
