I tried to research "Copper" and the primary derivation is supposed to be from Latin, To Grab, To Apprehend. I'd thought it was from early copper badges issued to NYPD, but the website played that down, along with copper helmets worn by British Bobbies. I find the handle "copper" offensive and don't use it, but I will say "cop/cops". For me, Officer, Deputy, Trooper are appropriate. Our local sheriff's department covers the city/county of our consolidated government. Their Impalas (an last of their Vics) are marked both Sheriff and Police. Our in California, I looked at a CHP Charger. They LOOK good as a police car, and I'm a brake nut. That thing had about the biggest brake discs I've seen in a passenger vehicle. Later, I read the Charger didn't provide the weight capacity they wanted and they were getting Police Explorers. Something about substituting 3.7 for 3.5 or vice versa. I'm sure AWD. CA's an interesting place. You can go from Beach to Forest to Mountains to Desert to Snow without much time/distance between. I'd think a SUV with AWD would be a good choice.
