I've enjoyed this thread.
The whole police package deal has always held some fascination for me. Being an older guy I still vividly recall...for a variety of reasons :B the mid to late 60's Mopar packages. The mid size Plymouth Belvedere with 383 4 barrel V8/Torqueflite transmission ... in the Midwest USA...or the full size...'68-'69 RCMP (Mounties) Dodge Polara (as it was known in Canada)...with the 440 V8.
I also was impressed with the late '60's Chevy RCMP BelAir/Biscayne ...427 cube/385-390 hp...police packages.
In my hometown back then, the majority of police packages were Belevederes with 225 sixes for general city patrol, but one area, had '67 Ford police packages with the 390 FE V8.
They went well, handled well and were highly maneuverable.
Since Chevy stopped producing the old style RWD, 5.7 liter (350) V8 Caprice police car in '96, Ford has pretty well had their way with the police car market in North America. They have done well and the latest Interceptor (Taurus) with AWD and the turbo 3.5 liter V6 is impressive...although many LEO's prefer the comfort of the old CV.
Dodge has some neat police packages ....the Charger V8....is one that comes to mind. The Chevy Tahoe is another.
