Funny how the detractors keep holding on to their hope that this will fail. Not enough payload, too much $$$, rated MPG is going to be low, diesel fuel is too expensive, not enough HP, payload is too low, (I am sure I am missing some, it & TP help me out), now the orders won't continue, and it's not consumers, only dealers ordering.
I look forward to your continued back pedals. This truck is going to be a winner. Nissan, Toyota and Chevy have already realized this as evidence by their entry into this or the compact truck market.
Dodge continues to be the one leading the way for innovation. Glad someone is pushing the envelope.
x2, Ram may not be getting everything perfect with this but right now they're driving the bus. - jus2shyExplorer

Sure would make a nice toad. Wish it could be towed 4 down.
I know the RAM HD's have a neutral switch for the 4x4's. I'm sure the 1500's have one as well for the x-fer case. Still would be a little big and heavy for a toad though... Bionic Man wrote:

Not sure I read anyone wished this truck would fail, but having said that the truck does have some major roadblocks (i.e. ROI, Performance, increased fuel costs, customer perception to name a few)in order for it to be a viable success.
We had a '94 Chevy 1500 6.5 TD and it ran great and diesel fuel was even cheaper than gas, and it didn't have all the emissions equipment, but in the end they just didn't sell. The TBI 350 was just too popular and was a cheap option even though it didn't make the fuel economy as the 6.5 TD.- otrfunExplorer II

Yes, competition and innovation!! I don't care if it's a Ford, Chevy, Ram, Toyota, or Nissan!! All I ask is that they all try hard to give me a reason to spend my hard-earned money on their trucks! - otrfunExplorer II

Turtle n Peeps, not sure why you're taking this personally. My comment was not about you. I believe if you take the time to read my posts above, especially the portion that starts off "However, one has to chuckle . . .", I believe that's where you very much missed my point. Again, it's not about failure, it's about empathy.otrfun wrote:

I guess one could say that about the Edsel or Vega or the Yugo too. Auto manufactures make mistakes. So do dealers and frankly, so do consumers.hone eagle wrote:
Totally agree! These automotive dealers are business owners first, Ram dealers, second. Competition is absolutely a win for consumers.
Would dealers order that many if they didn't have confidence in the product ?
Even if its never more then a nich product only Ram can do this, nobody else would bother.
That a win for people that want a light duty pick up eh?
The payload on the popular, nicely equipped, SLT Quad Cab version of the Ram Ecodiesel is about 1,300 lbs. Hardly lacking for the AVERAGE, non RV.NET, buyer. Yes, I totally get it: 859 - 1,300 lbs. of payload will NOT suffice for many here on RV.NET. I understand why and totally empathize with their position.
However, one has to chuckle and respect all the various aspects of human nature, even when folks say this truck is DOA just because THEY, personally, don't have a use for it.
Hell, I even picked Denver to win. :R Only time will tell if this truck is going to be Denver or Seattle, a Yugo or a Toyota Corolla. :B
My point: being negative just for the sake of being negative is pointless. It's really not about failure per se. It's much more about presenting a balanced, fair perspective--trying to walk in another person's shoes to appreciate the value of something from their perspective--the art of empathy.
Who's is being negative? Not me that's for sure. I said, "only time will tell if this truck is going to be Denver or Seattle, a Yugo or a Toyota Corolla."
This truck could very well be a Toyota Corolla!!

Let me guess, you also picked the 49'ers two weeks before that too :B
The second best team in 2013 was the niners, darn good team.
Oh yeah subject, if that baby Ram could be towed 4 down it would be perfect for us. Enough to tow the boat, great MPG, Home Depot getter and be a toad behind a DP. Yes Pipe dream I suppose towing 4 down :M - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer
