- TurnThePageExplorerLooks like the GM product is the only one with an exhaust brake. However, the video demonstrated that the Eco-diesel handled the downhill portion pretty well.
- packpe89ExplorerDoes the Ram ecoDiesel not have exhaust brake. I thought I saw the 1500 Chevy did. How about the F150?
- kw_00ExplorerWhen we decide to downsize our fifth wheel, I plan to look into the new diesel 1/2 ton from the GM stable. Granted it will be a few years, but that should give me time to save up cash and see how that new diesel will hold up.

I'm watching these (Eco Diesels) to eventually replace my Ram3500.
Before that happens, they need to add the exhaust brake and I would like to see a better, clutch type cooling fan. If available, I would go for the 3.92 diff.
It looks like they finally have the payload I need though.
I’m a bit surprised to read this; you aren’t thinking about going with a new Cummins? The price of these new diesel half tons isn’t a whole lot less than a new 3500 Cummins.
I don't think that is true unless you are comparing a Limited 1500 vs a SLT 3500.
Huge difference in driving comfort and MPG as well. If I sold my RV, I wouldn't have a 3500.
This is my thinking. I would like to have the ride and fuel efficiency of the half ton and still be able to tow my current trailer. These are the things that would make a new truck an "upgrade" for us.
The Cummins is roughly twice the price premium of the 1/2T truck diesel and probably ends up costing 10 to 13K more. - Bionic_ManExplorer

I really wish along with the climb they would tell us the towing mpg on a flat highway at less than 4,000 foot elevation.

- ib516Explorer IIThe EcoDiesel seems to be a decent performer and the mpg is good. Let's just hope they re-engineered it to last a little longer than the older ones. Some are good, but for my money, there were a few too many issues with them.
If I was in the market for a 1/2 ton diesel, I would wait a year or so to see how these hold up.
