I have an 07 dodge 2500 with a 6.7 completely stock. I am tired of seeing the check engine light on and I'm ready to do something. Any suggestions? If I understand what I have read correctly I can delete the egr for about $200, but if I delete the dpf I will need a tuner and the only ones that I can find that allow you to do this are around $1500. Would deleting the egr alone benefit me much or do I need to do both?And one more question. We are about to take our 308BHTS out for our first full camping weekend and we need to get a flagpole. Anyone have any suggestions for a good flagpole for 1-2 flags? WE have looked at the flag buddy and have read mixed reviews. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! We did a flag from Nylon a read on the greatyardmaster.com that it's a good material.

Yes, deleting the EGR will make a noticeable difference even if you retain the DPF. You will likely have a little better fuel mileage and less regens because the EGR causes a lot if soot when it injects exhaust gas into the intake. I am not too sure if you can delete the EGR without a check engine light coming on though. I know you can't do it with the new trucks, but I am uncertain of the older 6.7L trucks. Of course you will see better gains from a full delete.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that particulate matter(the stuff that the DPF traps) is significantly decreased with hotter cylinder temps. However, hotter cylinder temps create a lot of NOx so the EGR inject cooled exhaust gases into the cylinder to lower the temps which creates more soot. So without the EGR constantly cooling cylinder temps, less particulate matter is created at the expense of higher NOx which is not good if you live in a population dense area with high temperatures. It is not bad if you live in a low or mid populated area. Only a handful of areas in the US are under high NOx reduction requirements.

Keep all the parts removed, as you may have to reinstall them some day. BIL did not and was unable to register his truck in Arizona. EPA is currently stepping up it's enforcement of deleting and handing out hefty fines.

If the new owner has to have an emissions check and it fails because you removed the pollution controls, they can come back on you legally if the jurisdiction the new owner lives in and has emissions compliant checks for registration or tag renewal.

I'm surprised you still have the emissions equipment on your truck. This was by far the worst years for diesel emissions equipped trucks.

Don’t know what other state laws are, but in Texas it is illegal to sell a vehicle on which the emissions systems have been modified. Keep the parts. You may have to reinstall to legally sell it.

Texas law prohibits any person from selling, offering for sale, leasing, or offering to lease any vehicle not equipped with all emission control systems or devices in good operable condition. Violators are subject to penalties under the Texas Clean Air Act of up to $25,000 per violation. Buyers are advised to have the vehicle checked for all required emission control devices prior to purchasing a new or used vehicle.

I also have a 2007 6.7 CTD. You can’t just remove the EGR valve as it will throw the CEL on. You have the EGR cooler, the Diesel particulate filters, and the O2 sensors to remove and add the ECM programmer to compensate for all those missing devices.

Without breaking any laws. If I was worried about the environment I would not be driveing an oversized truck pulling a 12,000 lb trailer around. I would be driving a Prius with a tent in the trunk. Go attack somebody else. I don't have time for know it all's that know nothing about being a law abiding citizen.

Ironically, even without all the emissions equipment, diesels are better for the environment than gas. Diesels emit less CO and CO2 than gas engines do which are the gases that are harmful to the environment. Diesels have more PM and NOx which are harmful to human health in large populated areas. US EPA emissions laws are less stringent on CO and CO2 emitted by gas engines, but are considerably more strict on NOx compared to other standards like the EU. To say the US EPA policies are bias against diesels and more lenient against gasoline emissions even though they harm the environment more is a gross understatement.

Then when you're done, you have a truck that runs good again, for another 100k miles or whatever and you still have less performance, higher egt's, worse fuel mileage and your wallet is just as light from buying new parts as the cost of deleting.

I have the same truck. Before you go to do the delete you might try something else. Clean the EGR valve, the EGR cooler and replace the DPF filter. Look it up on YouTube. It's not that hard to do if you know how to operate a wrench. Where they say to buy the MOPAR brand of cleaner, ignore them. $30 plus for a liter. Go to a local auto parts store and buy a gallon of purple power for $6.99.
