elec generator

Friends moving to Florida have offered us their Troy Built 5550 watt portable generator with 8550 starting watts, Its not light, but was wondering if it would be suitable to use for the 22ft TT, haven't heard it run not sure of noise, can use for the house. Opinions appreciated

  • The price is not an issue, the ides of selling it and getting a smaller unit sounds good, I have not looked into a generator for the TT, so the suggestions on a 3000 watt sounds like the better option.
  • Yep, great house generator. If you can snag it for a good price you may be able to CL it and get some cash to buy a 3000watt one more suitable for the TT.
  • Heavy and loud - more suitable as emergency generator for house.
  • Suitable? Way overkill IMHO. Unless you want to run an AC unit, a microwave, and half of the campground at the same time it is a complete waste of effort. Heavy, noisy, fuel thirsty and difficult to handle come to mind. A 1000 generator is sufficient for simple battery charging, a 3000 watt is more than enough to run an AC unit and is a darn site better choice. If you are getting it for free, you might be able to sell it to someone on craigslist and then buy a much smaller one that more suites your needs.
