I stopped by the storage facility with intentions of recording the noise....
But the battery was nearly dead.
I was in my other truck without a 7 way plug, so I just pulled the battery.
I'll have it tested after work.
The jack only has 1 wire connection. The ground is made when the unit is bolted to the A-frame. The star washers are supposed to help maintain a good ground connection. The paint was already gone from that area, so I assumed a good connection would be made.
We'll see what the battery test says.
The unit does not have a drop foot on it. The base plate screws to the center of the bottom of the shaft.
Here is the model I have:
