The standoff brackets are required so the awning roller clears the roof overhang.
The power awnings have arms a little different than the manual awnings. The arms have to be completely vertical.
The roller is attached to the roof overhang like before (manual awnings), and the arms have to drop straight down from the roller assembly, hence the need for the standoff rackets.
