Electric tongue jack recommendations.

The options are mind numbing... I currently have a 2K atwood side winder, works okay but I'm looking to ease/speed up setup/hookup.

I would like a compact head for tailgate clearance, my WD hitch is setup just right and I'd rather not have to source a shank with longer reach to make clearance.

I'm considering this atwood 4k jack. The warranty seems good and online reviews seem mostly positive. I'm not sure about the 'robo foot', I'm worried about very uneven areas there may be times when there is no room to flip it down. The 'fastflip' specifically notes it can be used up or down.. not sure about this one though.

Ultra-fab has some with drop leg, have to get 4k for the drop leg in this brand.

Then there's this Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 18" Lift - 3,500 lbs - Black never heard of the brand, maybe a knock off?

I just started my search, any other suggestions?

Noisy like in it'll wake up the campers 50' away? We do often leave early, noise levels may be an issue.

I'm starting to think maybe get a fastflip to make the quick up/down faster and stick with the manual.

Yup... If you want to make an early getaway before the end of a CG quiet time, you may end up with some very irate neighbors. I only know because it happened to us once. And only once because I'd never do that again. :E Our electric stab. jacks and awning are also noisy.

There are some quiet jacks and I have no idea how to find them except for reading user reviews or posts on this forum. Depending on the site, you could always hook up the night before.

And seeing an above post, I forgot you need to consider the weight of the rear of the truck when you're lifting the tongue. Depends on the truck, what's in it and the particular WDH.
  • We are happy with our Barker 3500 tongue jack. For some weight capacity isn't an issue, in our case we just don't lift our tongue weight but the entire rear of our truck (WD bar installation/removal) which is very heavily loaded. A lesser rated power jack is not worth paying for only to find it lacking in performance and worn out in a couple of years. Our Barker 3500 is still going strong after nine years.
  • Pick any name brand rated at 3500 or higher you can get for the best price. I mean dang you're going to run it maybe 30 seconds to a minute? All the major brands stand behind the product well even after warranty period.

Some are rather noisy, like our UltraFab. There is a fairly quiet one but can't remember the brand (Husky maybe?). Weight capacity isn't usually a concern as tongue weight is approx. in the 500 - 1200 lb range. Would be nice if our jack was faster but I don't know if any are. The UltraFab head is fairly compact.

The switches on the Atwood don't look very waterproof. We use a hood on ours and never take it off. Keeps the water off and it still looks like new after 2 years of use.

I can't remember the brand that came on our TT we bought brand new, but it failed within a few days and got replaced by the UltraFab. That'd be one I'd avoid whatever it was.
