Electric truck - tow vehicle of future ?

Interesting article about an electric Class 7 truck .

Begs the question, are electric powered heavy duty pickups...ready for HD towing service... far behind ?

Range right now is somewhat limited, but where will it be in 5, 10, 15 years ?

Maybe the future is closer than we think.

100 Miles is not much at all. I know in Europe they have been exprimenting with MDT's for urban work. Scania had actrolley bus like Class 8 . It ran on freeways then City streets to recharge
  • They've got to start somewhere, but....

The author thought it would have a 100 mile range. That's not much for class 7 truck that's going to do city delivery work. Then before they go 100 miles they'll have to drive back to the yard for a 1 hour or longer charge. What are they going to do, buy twice as many tractors as they use now so they always have a set on charge. That's just going to kill productivity.

It would be interesting to see what the batteries consisted of. Maybe they'll make the battery packs so they swap out like electric forklifts?
