It sounds like one strip is RGB that will need a controller to change at will. The other sounds like it is a white strip. What are you wire colors?

One of the wires are not in and tight. Do you have white to ehite black to black?
connected the white to white and black to black but problem may have been we were connecting 2 sets of led with each having it's own dimmer switch. could that be the problem, and is it safe to hard wire these led strips directly to the old light wires?
Question 2 how can i get them to work like the old lights without electricity running from battery power? - RoyBExplorer IILED LIGHTS may be POLARITY TYPES. Maybe all you need to do is REVERSE the leds going to the LED light that didnt work...
Remember which colors of wires are being used on your first try as reversing leads may reverse the problem for one LED to the OTHER LED haha... - BeachumsExplorerIt sounds like one strip is RGB that will need a controller to change at will.
