Elixir ELX-30

Hi,

Check the fuses on the Elixir.

It is not a great unit--so replace rather than repair if it is more than just fuses. Look at Iota (with genius) or Progressive Dynamics (with Wizard).

Elixer has been out of business for some time. The only replacement my Dealer told me ( I had the Elixir 20 that also quit charging) was a World Friendship Corp (Chinese Junk). I went out on the Net and found my own. Best Converters This thing ROCKS and is less money than the WFC!!!

Thanks for the advice, and I agree that replacing the 12 yr old unit is the best solution. But I'm on the road for awhile and won't get that done right away. In the meantime, does 120v. either from an extension cord or from the on-board generator 'pass-thru' to run the 120 plug inside the camper, even when the Elixir is defective? Tom McCloud

Yes, the AC should not be affected by a problem with the DC portion of the converter. Of course, the AC breaker has to be functional and on.

That I am not sure about. I would try plugging it in and testing the outlets. Also, and unless I am mistaken (I'm sure someone will correct me) the converter/charger has nothing to do with charging from the truck.

My Elixir power converter in my 2006 Outfitter Apex 8 failed in exactly the same manner about 2 years ago. While I am a big fan of "Made in USA", at the time I came across the WFCO 8735 for about $120.00. It was an absolute "drop-in" replacement for the Elixir in the Apex 8. So far it has performed flawlessly and my 2 Trojan 6V batteries are much happier than they were before. I like the LED open circuit indicators on the WFCO as it is much easier to see if a fuse has blown. I don't know if it will last any shorter or longer than any other brand made anywhere else but we'll see.

Edited: BTW, the A/C should still work fine as A/C in to the Elixer provides A/C to the converter but also just feeds the A/C distribution breakers on the Elixer. None of the A/C distributed throughout the camper relies on any of the Elixer 12V portion (charging or distribution) to be functional.

afaik the ELX-30 is a three part panel. Includes 120v distribution, 12v distribution, and a converter to supply 12v power when 120v power is available. These system operate independently.

If the converter fails... the panel will still distribute 120v from the cord and 12v from battery.

The ELX-30 has 2 breakers and 4 fuses on the front panel. There is also a reset hidden behind the battery box which I believe has to do with the generator. The 4 fuses are all good. With the camper plugged into 120v., the 'wall socket' DOES operate at 120v., so as suggested above, there is 'pass-thru'. That's good news. Everything else that runs from the batteries still work. But replacement of the ELX is in order. In the meantime, I'll carry a battery charger and plug-in overnight at campgrounds. I have not started the generator to see whether I get 120v., but it seems that should work. TM...

I got a professional to install a new power box in the camper. 120v. was disconnected and deep cycles in the camper disconnected, yet there was juice to the old box until I disconnected the TRUCK batteries! The new box went in and deep cycles connected but utilities inside the camper were not live until I reconnected the TRUCK batteries! Something is not right here. I had a battery isolator in a previous camper and assumed this did too, so that the truck batteries could never be drained. Apparently not now. What I see doesn't make sense. It seems the deep cycles do nothing. Can I get some suggestions for troubleshooting this? Thanks. Tom McCloud
