Empty Black Tank

We installed a Tornado in our ROO HTT and it did a find job. Always, always add about 5 gallons of water and chemicals, if you wish, to the tank after dumping. If you've missed anything, that amount of water will keep it from turning to concrete. Our new TT has a black tank flush hookup and DH has said he likes it a lot - saves crawling around on the ground to hook up the Tornado.

We've been using Odorlos for a few years and have been pleased with it, but have been contemplating the Geo Method. Easy enough and more economical than the Odorlos. We're going to be out of Odorlos before the end of the season, so the test will be coming soon. Sensors are notoriously inaccurate, but those using the Geo say that it helps keep them cleaner and more accurate. That would be a great benefit. Two, maybe 3 trips from now, we'll have an opinion.

I have the Hydoflush and I have the hose attachment that goes down the toilet, but it still seems to get hung up. We mostly stay at State Parks that do not have full hook ups. We spent a while at the dump station when the hydroflush looked clear we used the hose in the toilet (several times) and then headed home. Once we got home I had half of a gal bucket drain out. It was gross!

I love my hydroflush, it does NOT stick waste to the sides of the tank. I've never had a problem with odors and it takes very little time, not to mention the entertainment value.

First thing to establish, is how do your currently 'flush' your black tank?

Do you let it fill to at least 3/4 full before opening the valve?

After you do this, do you just close the valve and call it good?

I know there are times when you are at the public dump station and all you can do it 'dump and go'... ;)

But, if you are at a full hookup site, with sewer, you have the time to flush your tank.... ;)

What I do when I have sewer at my site is let my tank fill.

Dump when it's full, or before I leave.

Close the valve and run a hose to the toilet and use one of those spary wand things and let it go down the hole of the toilet (if your toilet does not drop straight down to the tank, this is not really an option...)

I twist it around and move it up and down to get the spray around the tank and let it sit and fill up again.

Open the valve and let that drain out. It's amazing how much more stuff comes out... Oh, you should also get the clear adapter thing so you can see how much of this stuff is actually passing thru.. It's gross, but it lets you know you are doing some good! :)

Do this until you see pretty much clear water coming out.

Close the valve and add several gallons of water and add the deoderant of your choice and call it good.

I just wish I could do this with my grey tank, as that smells worse than my black tank.. I've found some tablets you can disolve in your sink that helps, but I wish I could give the grey tank a good flushing too..

Is the quickie flush the same thing as the "black tank flush" that I see offered on some models of new TTs?

While there may be some validity to your point, the fact of the matter is most RVs in ths forum do not have quickie flush attachments, as they are not standard. They have to be retrofitted.

Back flushing is available to everyone without drilling any hole in the black tank and making he upgrade. It is a very convenient way to lean out the tank tat can be done while breaking camp, and can be very effective.

Right. If one was to read the post at the link I provided above, they would learn that I use the grey tank water to backflush using a new accessory I purchased, so uses ZERO extra water. And BTW, my rig does have a built-in flush system, but a couple of years ago something plugged it up - I think something that got past my water strainer.

X2 Plus I use my Quickie Flush

I am a big fan of the "Geo Method" using cheap laundry detergent and a water softener/booster (Borax is the cheapest) along with 4 or 5 gallons of water to create a cleaner and somewhat slippery surface inside of the black water tank. No other drop ins needed.

Other will disagree, and I feel they are probably correct in their beliefs for their particular rig, because every toilet, black water tank design and size, air vent, drain configuration, and combinations thereof are not 100% exactly the same.

But it is cheap alternative, certainly worth a try, and it seems to work great for many of us.
