Emptying a portable sewer tote

DE88ROX - when you use that hose to fill the tote, do you just place the elbow end into the tote loosely? Or does it actually attach? When I looked at that hose setup I didn't think I would get a secure connection other than at the camper using the bayonet connection.

This is what I've found that should work:5' Sewer Tote hose & Thetford 90 degree elbow

I would prefer to use this elbow if I could get the fittings to match up using just one hose. I would prefer to use this elbow.

Before getting a Thetford with a built-in hose, I had a 5' hose for filling the tote and for dumping. I use disposable gloves and a 90 degree fitting. Rinse well at the dump and no worries.

I use a special 5' hose just for use with the tote works great never had a problem leaving the tote in truck bed flat attach hose to tank and then stand it up to dump.

Back when we first moved from a popup to a hybrid I made the mistake of buying a 22 gal tote tank but quickly discovered what a nasty job it was to off load grey and especially lumpy black water into a tote and later try to get rid of it. I soon discovered the FloJet Waster Macerator and for years now have used it for servicing our tanks at home and also for offloading grey and / or black as may be necessary when camping. I sold that awful tote tank, ditched the stinky slinky, and for years now have used a set of four 7 gal Aquatainers (marked clearly for the purpose with red tape on the handle) for offloading grey and even macerated black water. With the tanks in the back of my truck there's no lifting at all other than at the dump station where I just lower each one, one at a time, to the ground and simply tip it towards the dump station sewer inlet. No lumps at all, just macerated waste water, a quick rinse once empty and they're ready for the next use ... it's just all too easy. :B

On my Thetford tank the hose is just to short for dumping so this little adapter seems to be the best answer for dumping it from the truck or longer than a couple feet.

Have only used our tote once over a year ago and can't remember exactly what's needed but I know we bought a Thetford double pin termination adapter and had no problems along with using our 90 elbow and spare section of hose. If doing this more than just occasionally, a macerator pump would be a good idea That way you can leave the tote tank in back of truck and pump into it and not have to lift the tank in or out of the TV or tow it.

Like most others I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND using a hose that fits securely onto the tote and then goes into whatever dump hole there is at the dump station. Trying to dump any sort of waste water w/o a hose is IMO going to make an unnecessary mess.

I think I would try an limit using the tote for grey waste and look to see if something line a honey wagon service is available once a week for the black tank. Trying to dump a black tank into a tote over an extended time frame (i.e. multiple partial dumps tank capacity wise) w/o additional rinsing is going to result in a lot of "LEFTOVERS" that could clog up the works so to speak.
