Why are you turning off the TH? You can still downshift with it on. Higher line pressure is important when towing down or up a hill!!!
I don't like the auto downshifting. So much smoother when I do it.
Works great, you should try it before criticizing.
Maybe driving a 5&4 with a Jake brake in the hills made me a better operator.
