I don't know about Dodge or Ford but on my 2013 Chevy the exhaust brake works great, I set tow haul, exhaust brake and the cruise control. On a trip to Idaho last year coming down a 5% and 7% grade I never had to hit the brakes once, I just use the speed up and down on the cruise control and the truck just does what it needs to keep the set speed. It is very smooth with no aggressive braking or down shifting, if you want to see how well it works just start rapidly lowering your speed on the cruise control just be ready with your trailer brakes.
