I had a no name DVD player/surround sound system (home theater system) in my 2007 5er that also lost all sound. It was mounted in small opening in the cabinet below the TV. Measured the opening and went to Best Buy and bought a new home theater system to fit that opening. Came with new speakers. Used the new speakers with the existing wiring. Sounds much better than the original.
