epdm rubber roof

I have installed a rubber roof today on my Shasta. It has all new plywood and seams covered like it should. The issue is when I pulled up on it a small amount to see if it was snug, well it was still loose. I think I might have not got enough glue on it . Do you think I should redo it or maybe the rest of the things like fans and air will keep it in place. Thanks
  • How did you apply the glue… did you roll the rubber to set it in the glue… how long does the glue need to cure… was it the right glue for epdm rubber…
  • I purchased the glue from a dealer. They just poured the glue into a gallon jug for me. It had no instructions other that they said it is water based, and I should apply it to the substrate and apply roof. The only thing I can come up with is the glue soaked into the plywood very fast
  • Were it me, I think I would pull up the entire thing and re-apply - that is if it can still be all pulled up without tearing the rubber membrane or the plywood roof. Sounds to me like you did not apply the product heavy enough.

  • Stupid question.......Are all rubber roofs glued down. I thought that they were held in place just by the edges, the AC, Vents, etc...

  • I have been through several RV factories and in each one the rubber roof was applied using glue over the entire roof.

  • I'd call the dealer you purchased the glue from and explain the problem - might be something as simple as allowing more time for glue to set/dry.
  • Me ,too. It was sure disheartening to have the side pieces fall off the sides of the tent trailer roof. None of this acrylic contact cement BS for me ever again.
  • EPDM roofs I've seen on RVs as well as commercial applications (and I've seen lots) always have a few wrinkles and aren't tight. I wouldn't go tearing anything up right now. Give it a couple days to see how it dries and do some research. Maybe even run it by an RV shop to get a tech's take on it.
  • This should help.

  • Ok folks, this is what I did. The wife and I got up on the roof to check on were it glued down and what needed help. It turns out that it was much better than I thought. We just pulled back were it was loose and glued the heck out of it. Im much more satisfied. Thanks
