Equalizer hitch. where do you store when not in use?

we go so much I don't remove the hitch from spring to our last trip in the fall the bars go in garage at home or on the frame in front of the battery box when camping.

I tried to post a pic of how I store the torsion arms of the Equalizer hitch but was unsuccessful.

I built a simple box of 1x4 for the sides and 1/4 inch plywood bottom, or what ever one has on hand, for the bottom. it is about 6-8 inches longer than the arms and about 8 inches wide.
I did put a layer of scrap carpet in it.
It holds: the two torsion arms
the pry wrench that came with the hitch
The clip pins and L pins for the hitch (these have peices of string
on them for when one drops them on the ground.
Pair of leather gloves.
Rubber mallet, occasionally one must get the hitch's attention on a slope or such


The box keeps all togehter no rattle and no grease spread around. I leave it in the bed even when not towing unless some cargo requires that it be removed.
Oh, we do have a hard cover for the truck bed.

As for the hitch it self, when traveling and in a CG it stays on the truck, only at home do I remove it and leave on the garage floor on a peice of wood.

While you are at it, I painted the ends of the pins and L pins red with nail polish, again, makes them easier to find in the grass!

I have the equalizer hitch. My hitch head stays on the truck with a locking pin. For the bars, which get a little grease every time I go out I cover the grease end with a plastic bag from the grocer and they stay in the storage compartment.

i just keep the ball and receiver on the truck year round and bars in the storage compartment of the trailer

I use an old soft scoped rifle case to pad and hold the bars. I keep them in the pass thru storage with the attachment pins in place. The hitch head is in a sealed storage tote when not in use, sometimes in the garage and sometimes in the bed of the truck under a locked cover.

At home stinger and bars in the storage compartment. Camping, the bars in the storage compartment and hitch on an old piece of carpet under the trailer. Never leave the stinger in the receiver, or in the trailer coupler. My shins have thanked me e er since I stopped.

Everyone in the campground has a key to my storage compartment, so look at it only for convenience, not security.

When I get to the campground , I put the hitch under my wife's pillow . Its safe there . I just leave it on the excursion so that somebody to save my bumper when somebody hits my truck . It works .

An Equal-I-zer hitch head weighs 60-65 lbs. I have an outside storage bin that is under the couch that holds the bars and the hitch head and other stuff. If I'm only camping for a day or two I leave the hitch on the truck with a locking pin and put the bars in the storage. More time than that, I take the hitch off and put it in the storage compartment. It sticks out too far in parking lots etc. and, I, generally, manage to bang my shins at least once per trip. I have an old pair of gloves that are only used for the hitch.

You guys like to do a lot of work taking the hitch on and off the truck.
I think you can put the hitch on the floor of your trailer just put down a board or rug so you do not get your floor dirty and do not drop it.
I would think putting it into a storage compartment would be too hard.

When camping mine stays on the truck. If I am at home and planning on taking a trip soon/ not planning on using one of my other bumper pulled trailers it stays on the truck. Should I need to pull anther trailer once I have left my house I usually put it in the bed of the truck. Bars are in the storage compartment on the trailer or in use .

If I know I won't be camping for a while when I unhook the trailer I leave the hitch attached to the trailer with the trailer lock on. I also have a lock for the truck hitch pin.

I carry a 1 7/8, 2 and 2 5/6 inch hitches with me in the truck as well as a 5th wheel hitch in the bed. I recently traded out my 2 inch with one that can be used with a pintal hook or the 2 inch ball. I used to carry just the balls and a wrench but it would take so much time to switch that I just got more receivers to put the balls on and leave them.

I am on the road almost every day usually pulling some type of trailer usually a 30 foot gooseneck flat bed) not always one that I own. If I only pulled my own bumper hitch trailers I would buy all the same size or switch them all to the same size.
