I used to put my hitch ball in the pass through storage while campimg, but now I have a locking pin so it can't be removed from receiver. Besides, it's in the way there. I would not want to leave it there because it rattles whie driving. The bars get put in the truck cab back seat floor.

I'd also invest in getting a backup set of locking pins for everything and keep them in the TV glovebox.
