Equilizer going from Ram 1500 to 2500

My current vehicle is a Ram 1500 and I will be borrowing my friends Ram 2500 diesel for a long trip coming up and I don't want to adjust my hitch. My question is do you think it will require an adjustment?

I dont believe it will be too much of an issue if it off a little bit but I dont want to trade with the hopes of an easier drive and end up worse than I started. His hitch sits just under 19 3/4" and mine sits at 18.5" from the ground.

My current set up is with 5 washers.

I know this isnt the right answer but I really dont want to take apart the hitch to readjust. The 5" bolts are torqued to 320ftlbs as per the instructions and I would have to go to a shop just to adjust it and I could end up going back home then realizing it didnt work and have to go back and forth. Plus getting it back to spec again after we trade back. Lastly, I dont know what type of stress on the hitch it might cause to repeatedly be adjusting it over and again.
  • How big is the trailer?

You might only need to adjust the hitch height.

Drop the trailer on the ball and go!
  • I didn't torque my bolts down until I finished the setup. I tightened tight enough to hold and when I had the heights right, I put the cheater pipe on and applied some weight.
  • Hitch it up and see. If you were going from the 2500HD to the 1500, I'd be more concerned. His receiver being higher will offer less WD which is probably the way you'd need to go anyhow. One inch higher on the tongue probably won't be noticeable.
  • I think the height of the two vehicles will be an issue along with the differing spring rates.
I don't think your can swap without adjustments.
  • "I know this isnt the right answer but...I'M STILL GOING TO DO IT WRONG."

PLEASE validate my bad BAD decision and put my...small...mind to rest.

Hopefully we won't ever meet on the highway...or any where else.
  • Well I will hitch up and take some measurements and start to work on it from there. I suppose between the washers and the l brackets I can try a few easy adjustments rather than looking to remove the big 5" bolts.
  • Do you have to use the bars? Can't you just use the hitch head? How big and heavy is your trailer?

Isn't it more fun to wildly speculate and make assumptions?
