Equivalent Tire Size

I am looking at replacing the ST205/75D14 tires that came with my Camplite 21BHS. I have about 500 miles on them, but to be honest, I don't trust them. One of them has a blemish on the sidewall that has developed into a crack:

I am looking at the Kumho radials, but the tire size designation is a bit different. The closest in terms of the size specifications seem to be the 195R14C tire. Am I missing anything with this?

Thanks,

Doug

The 195R14C is the closest size to the ST205R14. Maxxis does not make a LR "D" in a 14" tire. I have the Kumho's on a 30' boat trailer and will be switching my TT tires soon.
Kumho's are considered a "metric" tire size.

Right, and European designed. To make it look more like a LT tire we could do this.... LT195/82R14D.

ST205/75R14 is follows the standard tire sizing in the US. I'm not sure what the 195R14C would be besides maybe and LT truck tire load C.

Take a look at this trailer tire vs. passenger tire info too.

Your local tire shop should stock and be able to order trailer tires for your original size. I specifically wanted the Maxxis M8008 and ordered through my local Discount Tire store.

Why not just go to Maxxis in the same size and a D rating?

That is another consideration. At max weight (GVWR 5000lbs), my trailer would only place a 1250 pound load on my tires. Since we generally weigh in a good bit lower than that, I'm looking to get just a decent quality tire, so the Maxxis are certainly an option.
  • We replaced our Duro tires with the Kumho tires that were purchased from Tirerack. If you contact Tirerack, they will tell you the correct size. We are on our first trip with the Kumho and so far are very pleased as we can tow at a steady 65 since the Kumho tires are rated for 106 mph.
