Pending the area you are in (high sun, freeze/thaw winters,) around the 3 to 4 year mark be on the lookout for real fine hair line slits in the caulking. That is the beginning of the problem. The slit is about 1/64 to 1/32 deep at this point and not "yet" an issue. Then come a good freeze thaw a lot winter or extreme heat and towing road flex, that slit opens. Water lays in it, freezes, splits open and now the issues are coming big time.

I was anal about checking the caulking, every time I'm washing the roof, at least 4 times a year or more, and would be on the lookout. Especially going into winter and just coming out of it. See a hair line slit, that is the time to re-Dicor it. Then on about the 5th year, OMG coming out of that winter it started in on my unit and I was on the look out. I had checked the caulk in November, had a bad winter and could not find the roof... until around March. I had at least 4 areas way larger than I wanted to see and that was it. This has to go.

What is worse is the gutter rail the way it is made. Water gets behind the vinyl screw cover strip, festers, over time mold grows, screw heads rust, rusting screw heads then rust the screws and wamo... now there is a wicking path for water to soak right into the cieling area. I took care of that gutter rail issue too.

Methods and materials now exist to eliminate these issues and make an RV roof setup that can be leak free, just wish it would catch on at the factory. Even charge more for the upgrade, I would be the 1st in line to buy it.

Be sure and add Dicor or a similar product around the edges of the Eternabond for a OEM look but more importantly to seal the edges.

Most Eternabond jobs look like a band aid laying on the roof and may/can effect future resale.

Acetone works. I used Eternaclean. It ranks up there with brake cleaner. It works quick and flashes off real quick. And yes, prep is a must if you want it on long term.

If I ever buy another camper, it it will get the same treatment shortly after I obtain it.

I have also applied a thin edge of Dicor on the exposed edge on the roof to help stop the dirt from sticking to it over time.

I also did the slide seams.

It is not as daunting as it sounds. I used a low voc lacquer thinner that flashed dry quickly. Do not set rags or can of cleaner on roof!

I went right over the Dicor sealant. Make sure when you put the Eternabond down it is where you want it. It is not moveable. Then make sure you used a roller - a small wallpaper seam roller or a larger laminate roller and roll, roll, roll to get a good bond. If you want you can put a little Dicor or ProFlex along the edges of the Eternabond, but not necessary. We did the roof 3 years ago and I just pressure tested the trailer and not one leak on Eternabond seams.

The directions and/or website should have prep instructions.
