I can’t tell you how much I dislike that plug design. Everything about it is bad. I quit using it on my TC many years ago. The contact area of the flat pins is minimal. They are typically rated for 30 amps continuous. Even the “standard” pin-out is wrong for that style of plug. The center pin sticks out further than the six flat pins around it so it will be the first to make contact. So what wire should be there??? GROUND!
Of course if you did use the center pin for ground, it would help if the +12v pin had more contact area, but it doesn’t.
The Pollak 7-round pin connector is what the RV world should have standardized around. It’s a much more durable and reliable design. It’s also rated for 40 continuous amps. This is looking inside one, and see how that top pin is bigger, and sticks up higher? Guess what wire is connected to that pin? Ground.

For truck campers, since they don’t typically have brakes (weird, huh?) Pollak also makes a six round pin plug set that is physically smaller than the standard RV plug, and is also rated for 40 continuous amps.
If you need a plug rated higher than 40 amps (I do) you can use either the Pollak 2 round pin plug, or Anderson connectors for the + and - 12v wires, and put the brake/turn/marker lights on a 4 pin plug.
IMHO, of course. :B
