On my Ram 2500 6.7 Diesel SLT I have a symbol on the EVIC that I've never seen, and some weird things started happening today.Drove to Costco in Parker from littleton (about 15 miles) to pick up a few things. When I left I had half a take so decided to top off. Filled her up and took off and withing a couple of miles the truck started to stutter?? shudder?? sort of when accelerating. I drove around awhile and noticed it does it about 1500-1600 rpm, whether I'm controlling the pedal or on cruise control.There were no warning indicators on the EVIC at first, then after about another 30 miles I noticed one. It looks like a snap ring, open at the bottom with what appears to be a piston looking thing inside from about 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock, the head of the piston pointing to 4 o'clock. The truck also doesn't seem to accelerate as quick and smoothly as before.Unable to find info on what that indicator is on-line anywhere. Even some of the Ram cummins diesel forums Could it be for the injectors? I bought the truck 3 months ago with just over 57K miles and now has just over 60K, so they would still be under original warranty I would think. Even if not I have the extended extra warranty 5 or 50000 from date of purchase so should be able to get it fixed on their dime.Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Could it be bad fuel? Filled up at a station in parker that I've used before with no problems. Or is it something else that just occurred coincidentally? My first diesel and I was loving it, but now don't know where to look for information on possible issues.Any thought or info is appreciated.

Check the manual to figure out exactly what the EVIC light is. I know they are getting pretty creative with some of those icons and I can't keep track of what they mean. Probably a dozen times over the years my wife has tried to explain what some symbol on the dash of her car(s) looks like and once I get the manual it's nothing like I was envisioning. Most of the time it's a low tire warning which is kind of like what you are describing. Something I picked up for my son's car that I've found myself using on my Ram is a code reader from Autozone for about $60. It's super valuable to read and clear codes. You can at least get a number to look up on the net or run by folks here.

There is diesel available at this store on all pumps, and this being my first diesel and knowing what problems it would cause, I'm always certain to use the diesel start button.But you gave me the answer I missed somehow. Top row, 2nd from the right, electronic speed control indicator for cruise control which I've never seen before. Not saying it wasn't there but never noticed it with cruise on. The indicator is white just like the other items on the EVIC, not yellow or red or any warning type of color so maybe I just never noticed it. I do always see the "Cruise Ready" display briefly. I had been using cruise on and off and perhaps I had left it on when I parked and saw the indicator. I'll check it tomorrow, but doesn't appear to be related to the problem, which is a good thing. But the problem persists...Anyone?

If you've got a warranty, take it in and use it. Don't let the problem get worse. Could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter. If you let it go without repair, you'll give your warranty company a good reason to deny your claim.

EVIC symbols? Bad fuel or coincidentally something else?

Problem RESOLVED! It WAS bad fuel, and evidently I did put gas in my diesel tank, per the station where I purchased it.

Got up this morning and drove 1.5 hours up the mountain, grabbed a cup of joe, then back down using up more than half a tank. Stopped at Valero when back in town and refilled my tank and I have my beautiful powerful clackity-clack acceleration from my Cummins 6.7 back with no shudder/stutter at any RPM.

Contacted the station where I purchased yesterday and they said they had almost a dozen conplaints/calls and were in the process of having their diesel pumped out with another tanker on the way to refill.

Evidently the last delivery, the driver emptied premium into their diesel storage by mistake. They asked for the transaction id from the receipt and are crediting back my purchase and want me to keep track of any "fuel" related issues. The owner will handle any costs that may occur from this for the next 90 days. I'm just happy to be back

Glad to hear the issue is resolved. Be very happy that you don't have a truck with a CP4 fuel pump because it would be a whole different scenario! ;)

If I understand the OP's post, he had a half-tank of diesel and filled up the remainder of his tank with gas. Wow, you can run a 50/50 mixture of diesel and gas and not damage the engine??

Holy carp, you got lucky!
If not for the dilution of topping off the storage tank that already had diesel in it and topping off your rig at half a tank, your post would have said something like "Filled up tank w diesel, truck died, towed to dealer, they want $10k to fix it!"

Even still, I'd take your truck in and pay for a complete diagnostic test. Now.
The fact that you only had a small percentage of gas (or it wouldn't have run, much less up I70 n back)is reassuring, but it could have damaged the injection pump, internal engine damage and damage to the emissions system in the exhaust.

Man I'd almost be tempted to put some more gas in er and make sure it gets fixed properly by the station, wink wink. You most definitely took some life span off or some major components. This is a tough situation.
Also talk to your insurance company, IMO, as this is simply comprehensive case and let them subrogate any issues back to the fuel station. I think that will formalize your record of this event if you have future issues.

50/50 wont get you far, like out the driveway and about 2 blocks, lol. The storage tank had to have been about 50/50 as well.
