I think the main reason people like to troll Elon is that it was being said that the semi would be here as soon as he can make enough batteries and he plans to triple battery production- three years ago. I think the real reason for the semi not being in production yet is lack of real demand. Electric semis and other vehicles are the future, no doubt. But Tesla's main attraction is that they are fast, techy, sexy playtoys for the wealthy, as evidenced by the Model S Plaid version that can run a 1/4 mile in the low 9s and costs north of $100,000 for an otherwise fairly generic four door luxury sedan. Fast, techy and sexy but totally worthless in the practical world. In trucking it's all about the bottom line, and until trucking companies know they can make more money using an electric truck over a diesel, the demand just won't be there.
