I just flick the shifter mounted PacBrake switch. If necessary I depress the clutch and drop a gear. :B
Oh, you must be talking the newer fancy diesels. :S
Lol yeah! Truck stays wherever it put it.......
I do like the new fancy transmissions that act almost as good as an Allison though!
And a built in turbo brake woulda saved me $1400.....
Yep, my truck works very similar, except the exhaust brake switch is on the dash. Oh, and the exhaust brake works perfectly in first gear, too! ;)
All bs aside, while I really like towing with my G56 truck, I've run all of the big 3s trucks in auto trans form in the last 20 years and I'd take any of the newer 6 speed autos over the handshakes for all around driving without complaining.
I guess I just don't give it a lot of thought any more. Daily drive this rig through town. I have given serious thought to doing a G56 swap for the NV4500, that extra gear would fill the big hole between 3rd and 4th. That would be the perfect back up for the Valair Double Disk clutch.
I don't either, of course it's not my DD. Was the wife's DD until a few yrs ago when we moved to Seattle. Took a cpl months of her lugging that handshaker thru stop n go traffic and she said find me an auto trans! I tend to agree after sitting on I 5 for an hour in and out of 1-3rd gear 500 times with a 3500# clutch!
Driving thru town, to the store, occasional traffic jam, not bad. Daily rush hour traffic is not the right place though.
And as much as I like manual trans, I only sought out this one cause the Dodge 48re of the time sucked IMO as a towing trans. If I could of backed the Cummins in my Mega with an Alli 1000 in 2007, it would not be a stick shift truck!
