Excess heat in bunk above outdoor kitchen..

Just as title says - Bunk above compartment that houses the outdoor kitchen in our 280QBS is excessively hot. Warm to the touch. Heat is coming in from outside, obviously..

Warranty fix, or "mod"? How would you repair?
  • It's the fridge, which makes heat to "cool", however bizarre that fact always seems to me. Heat rises, and that's the point. Fix is shielding as suggested OR turning it off when sleeping- which last might be the simplest thing to do, since you probably only need the bunk at night.

Things in the fridge will keep just fine for eight hours or so without the fridge actually powered up.
  • I would get the best rigid insulation I could buy and place it under the mattress.
What ever you decide to do, please get back to us. We're thinking about getting the same floor plan.

    Thanks,
    Scott
  • I would be concerned about that… check the cooktop manual and make sure all air space specs. are met… then I would question the mfg. about the insulation requirements and fire stop methods…

I am not sure I would fix or mod this at this time and void any warranties or liabilities, but it needs addressed IMHO…
  • On the bunk above my OK, the luan panel beneath the mattress is removable by removing the bunk side rail. Try it on yours. Could put insulation in the cavity.
  • Ours does that when we run the fridge out there. We leave it open as much as possible. I have thought of putting some relfects insulation and a piece of Styrofoam hard board under the mattress.
  • I was just thinking about reflectix.. I think im going to try this first for sure
  • Try laying some reflectix (aluminized bubble wrap) under your mattress. If it works, you might be able to line your bunk area with it.

Lining the bunk side instead of the kitchen side adds that degree of safety in that the heat from the fridge should not be a fire concern to anything on the bunk side.
  • I leave it closed.. just to avoid any theft issues.. I could try leaving open to vent if that is what will do it.. But not ideal.

Wonder if i could build some vents of some sort in to the compartment door to help give the heat an exit.
  • Do you have your kitchen open or closed? I leave mine open and have not noticed heat. The only heat would be from the fridge and if the kitchen is open the heat would leave.
