This is where I would go first.
That fixed my 4.6 Modular V8 in my Fabulous Town Car from a very similar issue… Only difference was mine would howl like a trumpet, and die, and idle rough.
Just a hint… disconnect the battery before you replace the IAC…
Could also be a fuel filter.. chances are you need to replace it anyway.
