No. the 5.4L gas came with 4.10`s. the V-10 had 3.73 stock and 4.30 factory option. the diesels had only a 3.73 available.

SD pick ups offered different gearing options.

Not being a Ford guy, I was going by what I remembered reading here over the years. I recalled that the X only came with 3.73's but that Ford made a 4.30 gear set that would fit the X axle and there was some limiting factor that nobody was making an aftermarket receiver. My apologies to the OP if that info was incorrect. I know a lot more about the burbs than I do the X's.... :)

All that aside, since you are looking for 6 seats with seat belts, and don't want little kids in the front with active airbags, I think the X is a good choice for what you are looking for if the TT is not too heavy.

I have a 2000 Ex with V10 and 430 gears. It tows like a bear. The Ex never got the 3 valve engine like the trucks and vans and the original diesel was the 7.3 but went to the 6.0 a troubled engine. As for the hitch....be careful replacing it as it was part of the structure as required by fed regulations NOT just a hitch. That's why there are no replacements certified except from Ford.

I find it interesting that to get to 20K GCWR the X needs the 4:30 (I assume that is for the 7.3 and not the 6.8) whereas my 2001 Van 7.3L with the 4.10 has the same 20K GCWR:h I think the 7.3L Vans with the 3.55 have a GCWR of like 16K. Not sure but I think the X has the same size tires as the Van 245R75x16 LR"E".

The X had a 4.30 option from the factory. And from about 01 on up the hitch rating is 1250lb TW and 12,500? tow rating. I just replaced my hitch with a Curt hitch (the only company that offers a hitch for the X as of right now). It is rated at 1200/12,000.

Last year they made the X...*sniff*....anyone know when they started the whole yellow sticker thing?
