The '05 had a actual exhaust brake that Cummins said to have around 180 horse power for braking.
Your '14 Ram uses the turbo (VGT) as a exhaust brake which Cummins says has around 240 hp for braking. Lot better braking performance.
I have the Jacobs EB on my '03 HPCR Cummins with 260k miles and no issue or wear from using it all the time. I have the T handle EB switch on top of the NV5600 shifter....it stays on all the time.
I've noticed on a couple of haulers forums some of the guys with early 6.7 engines are going over 350k-400k with no wear issues from the VGT system on all the time.
